Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain enjoys another stage win
The victories keep coming for the riders of the Husqvarna Rallye Team by Speedbrain in Qatar. Paulo "Speedy"
Goncalves wins Friday´s third stage of the Sealine Cross Country Rally, making a bold statement aboard his Husqvarna bike.
Paulo started in fourth place into the rally´s longest stage (360 km). He picked up one rider after another and caught up to Marc Coma. The Portuguese then passed his fellow countryman Helder Rodrigues on his way to the finish line. "Speedy" rode his Husqvarna TE 449 RR by Speedbrain highly concentrated, taking all of the hurdles - dunes, high-speed sections, tricky navigation - commandingly. Goncalves owned the stage by two minutes over Coma, who finished third.
Joan Barreda, the second team rider, opened the day following yesterday´s win. "Hurricane" was storming away from his rivals, as he suddenly had to avoid a civil car coming his way in a corner. Barreda crashed down a stoney hillside and damaged his bike heavily. Luckily the Spaniard remained uninjured.
He arrived at the next fuelling stop with severely damaged controls and a broken navigation tower. The machine could be somewhat fixed, but the incident costed the rider over one hour on the leaders. Barreda: "That was a nasty moment and a close call. Because of the national holiday there was a lot of public traffic. The crash was a shock and I´m lucky to be standing here alright. Until then all was going fine."
Team principal Wolfgang Fischer: "Including today we have won three of the four day classifications. That´s a terrific team achievement and emphasises how well the whole squad operates. Our Speedbrain Husky is running like clockwork. Joan and Paulo are doing a top job, which isn´t quite reflected in the overall standings due to bad luck. We keep going strong."
